Dear Mr. President,

If I may offer my humble opinion, I wouldn’t mind if you had a wang-wang (siren) on your vehicle.

After all, you are the new leader of this nation.

Perhaps, as an individual, you have always lived simply.

I understand that you do want want to come off as arrogant, flamboyant or taking advantage of your position.

But, sir, if you allow yourself to get stuck in traffic jams and your vehicle stops whenever the traffic light is red, would you not agree that of paramount concern here should be your safety rather than your image?

Your Security Chief is probably experiencing chest pains everyday from all the stress of having to ensure your safety each time you leave Malacanang Palace.

It is okay to take back what you said on Inauguration Day, Mr. President.

We respect that you loathe excesses that the previous administration was notorious for.

We are aware that you want to preserve the legacy of your parents and uphold the lofty ideals that they lived by.

However, you might be giving your enemies too much of an opportunity to launch an attack on you.

Sir, the day you were inaugurated as the fifteenth President of the Philippines, you assumed the highest position in the land. With that comes perils as well as privileges.

I do hope you are rethinking this option.

Unlike with public servants, congressional representatives or city mayors where such fanfare would be deemed excessive and absurd, I do believe that the President’s use of security escorts and devices is a necessity.

It is not Noynoy Aquino that needs to be protected.

The President of the Republic of the Philippines should be protected at all times.
